My child has PI and recently started with IVIG treatment.  My current health care plan covers this treatment but in this lay-off economy, I have little job security.  How often do insurance companies covers IVIG?  I’m afraid that if I were laid off and put on another plan that it might not be covered.

From what I understand, most carriers do cover IVIG therapy.  You should ask your child’s doctor what their experience has been.  Some insurance companies may just need more in-depth documentation and diagnosis codes from the doctor to ensure coverage.

My son has been newly diagnosed with Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVI) and the doctor recommended  immune globulin intravenous (IGIV) therapy treatments.  I was just wondering if anyone has AETNA/US Healthcare for insurance and if so do they cover these treatments and are there any other problems regarding payment from them? My husband and I are so worried about this and need some reassurance from someone who has gone through this. We live in New York.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Jean M.
