Believe it or not, it does. The severe infections experienced by the patient are dramatically decreased because the missing antibody protection against infections is restored.

Our son, age 5, started IVIG in December of 2002. He has has 4 infusions and we are absolutely amazed at the results. He is a different child. He has been well for the last 3 months - a record for him. His energy level is amazing. It is so wonderful to see him healthy.

Our son has been getting IVIG continuously for 8 years know and it has been great. He is rarely sick. This is not to say that he hasn't gotten sick and we must be watchful for infections, but it truely does what they say it does. Ed

I just posted a discussion about this topic. It has not yet been posted because it has to be reviewed by the admin. Look for it. You should be encouraged. It will be under "new topic". I labled it IVIG something.

My daughter has been receiving weekly infusions of IVIG at home for over a year now, and she is a much healthier, happier child. She is no longer pale and thin, and she doesn't miss birthday parties, girl scout events, school plays, etc. because of sickness anymore. She gets more sleep because she isn't coughing all night long (we all get more sleep!) and we now dare to plan family outings weeks in advance, something we never used to do.

How does home IVIG work? Currently I go to the hospital every 5 weeks for my infusions but it gets very inconvenient. They say that a physician needs to be present when I have my IVIG. I'm very happy with the good health I've had the past 3 years since I have been getting IVIG infusions but I'd really like to know more about doing it at home. Can you tell me where I can get more information? Thanks!

My son Jack starts IVIG on March 4th. I am so nervous. Is there a good websit I could use to get more information? Our dr. said it will really help him. He also states it is very expensive. How expensive is it? thanks laura

I HAVE ONE CHILD ON IVIG AND IT SIMPLY AMAZES ME AT HOW DIFFERENT HE IS. HE ISN'T AS GROUCHY AS HE USED TO BE AND HE SETTLES HIMSELF DOWN WHEN HE GETS UPSET. I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS ME. I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS EVER TO HAPPEN IN MODERN MEDICINE.

IVIG is very expensive and cost prohibitive for anyone without insurance. My hospital bill for each infusion is $15,000. The Bottle of IgG has a wholesale value of $3,000. Because of this high cost and maxing out on my insurance, I go with the HMO that doesn't have mamimums. Nancy
