A newly published manuscript in a leading peer reviewed scientific journal reports on an unprecedented genetic sequencing initiative from the Jeffrey Modell Foundation. The program, “Jeffrey’s Insights”, was piloted at 21 selected Jeffrey Modell Centers worldwide. 158 patients with a Primary Immunodeficiency participated. After next generation sequencing (NGS), physicians at the Centers altered their suspected diagnosis in 67% of the patients. 40% of the patients had a change in disease management. 36% had a change in therapy, 45% had a change in outcomes and there was an approved therapy for 80% of the patients.
The program will now be expanded globally to all 379 academic teaching hospitals in the Jeffrey Modell Centers Network. There will be no cost to the patient, family, hospital, insurance company or government agency. This is the Jeffrey Modell Foundation’s gift to the global community.
