Tomorrow (2/29/24) is Rare Disease Day, an annual global campaign that aims to increase awareness, educate decision-makers, and improve the quality of life of people living with a rare disease.
For this month’s #WeArePI collaboration with the Immune Deficiency Foundation, we gathered key facts about rare diseases that you can share with your network:
- 1 in 10 people in the United States live with a rare disease. Men, women, children, and the elderly are all impacted.
- More than 450 Primary Immunodeficiencies have been identified to-date.
- Did you know that on average it takes 9-15 years to get diagnosed with PI? An estimated 70% of individuals with PI remain undiagnosed worldwide.
You can support people living with PI and other members of the rare disease community by sharing your story, becoming a plasma donor, and educating others to spread awareness.
Together, we’re working toward decreasing time to diagnosis, ensuring access to proper treatment, advocacy, research.
