We’re back with a new edition of JMF Defined! Today we’ll be defining a form of treatment called a “BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT.”
A BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT is a type of treatment for certain Primary Immunodeficiencies. You may also hear it referred to as a Stem Cell Transplant. Bone marrow is the soft tissue inside our bones, and the cells there help to keep us healthy and strong!
During a transplant, new, healthy cells from a donor are used to replace damaged or unhealthy cells. When a transplant is successful, the body starts to build a new, healthy immune system from the donated cells. This way, people living with PI can live full and healthy lives!
